For the sake of this project, the following definitions apply:
DIGITAL MEDIA: Advertising on any internet-connected device
TRADITIONAL MEDIA: Advertising in media such as newspapers, magazines, direct-mailers, billboards and cable television
The advertising industry is ever-evolving, changing as technology improves and more methods arise. Over time, especially in the past few decades, there has been a large shift of the type of media used to advertise towards more digital media. It is important to notice advertising trends and see why they occur. Studies have shown that digital advertising methods are more efficient, costing less and returning more leads than traditional media. However, it is important to note how traditional media advertising is still widely used and important to obtain the greatest portion of the target market of a company. Rather than completely replacing traditional methods in regards to budget, digital media has expanded the overall amount spent in advertising in the United States. Digital media ad spend has expanded exponentially compared to the slow decline of traditional media ad spend.
