The Standard U.S. package of cookies such as Chips Ahoy or Keebler Chips Deluxe has an outer tear-away cover & interior cookie tray, which is almost entirely non-recyclable.
The design of the “Nom” cookie box in contrast, is 100% compostable and biodegradable. The main structure is created using paperboard and ideally assembled using a biodegradable hot-melt adhesive. The front window of the tray is made of PLA (Polyactic Acid) which is composed of corn or sugar.
The packaging design includes a perforated opening on the top with a tab to reseal, along with a drawer that you can pull out. This mimics the aspects of standard U.S. cookie packaging by being able to open from the side and reseal on the top, with a more eco-friendly material.
The branding, inspired by the roundness and sensation of chomping down on a sweet treat such as a cookie. The name “Nom” is onomatopoeia of this experience of enjoying a cookie. The brand pattern is the word “nom” repeated in discrete abstract lettering to add to the roundness and playfulness of the brand. The primary colors of the brand are the Dark Brown, Tan, and Off White, with the rest of the colors depending on the cookie flavor. If I were to expand the project, each flavor of cookie would have packaging that reflects the colors and appearance of the corresponding cookie. The cookie flavor of choice for the project is “rainbow crunch” aka the same as Keebler Chips Deluxe M&M cookies in the grocery store. Likewise, the packaging has large rainbow shapes on the top part and upper-sides of the box. The brand pattern is also altered to be the same rainbow colors.
